“Poilievre Unveils Plan to Slash Federal Taxes on Diesel Fuel”

Share

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has introduced a proposal aimed at reducing federal taxes on diesel fuel to ensure Canada’s continued access to affordable fuel resources. Poilievre emphasizes that while Canada currently produces sufficient diesel to meet domestic demand, logistical challenges result in certain regions relying on imports from the United States.

The plan involves the complete elimination of taxes on diesel sales until at least July 1 of the following year by extending the full fuel excise tax cut and exempting the GST on fuel purchases. Poilievre also suggests removing all diesel production taxes by permanently eliminating the federal industrial carbon tax and the Clean Fuel Standard. According to Poilievre, these taxes increase production costs for diesel and deter investments in refinery infrastructure.

The proposal was unveiled by Poilievre at a gas station in suburban Ottawa, where he highlighted that the Conservative initiative aims to enhance refining capabilities, facilitate the processing of more Canadian crude oil, and develop the necessary transportation and storage systems to cater to all regions’ fuel needs.
