The Saskatchewan Selects Football Club took a proactive stance on player safety by mandating Guardian Caps for all players, both in practices and games. Director Zeljko Stefanovic collaborated with concussion expert Patrick Neary to establish a comprehensive safety protocol, focusing not only on headgear but also on teaching safe tackling techniques to reduce head injuries among players.
Despite some skepticism and a lack of extensive research on the effectiveness of Guardian Caps, initiatives like those of the Saskatchewan Selects are paving the way for enhanced player safety in football programs. Neary emphasized the significance of collecting data on the caps’ impact to further refine safety measures and mitigate head injuries among players.

Chay’s personal experiences underscore the critical need for prioritizing health and safety over concerns about appearances or perceptions of toughness in sports.
