The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired catcher Shawn Ross through waivers from the New York Mets. Following the acquisition, Ross has been sent to triple-A Buffalo for the time being.
At 26 years old, Ross marked his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this year, participating in two games at the MLB level before joining the Mets. Throughout this season, Ross has showcased his skills in 70 games between the triple-A and double-A tiers, boasting a .184 batting average. He has also recorded 13 doubles, 11 home runs, and 29 RBI, along with successfully throwing out 14 baserunners from behind the plate.
Ross initially signed with the Pirates as an undrafted free agent in 2022 after his time at Clarendon Junior College. With a career spanning four seasons and 285 minor-league games across the Pirates and Mets organizations, Ross holds a .189 batting average. He has accumulated 39 doubles, 53 home runs, and 148 RBI during his minor league tenure.
