Prime Minister Mark Carney is anticipated to have a meeting with King Charles during his visit to the United Kingdom next week. Carney is expected to land in London on Sunday following his trip to Norway to witness the NATO Cold Response exercises and take part in a summit involving Nordic nations.

The meeting between the prime minister and the King is scheduled for Monday, nearly a year after Charles visited Canada to deliver a speech from the throne marking the commencement of the 45th Parliament. Carney mentioned to journalists on Thursday that the King is keen on advancements in the Arctic region and the impact of climate change on the North.

He also highlighted that the King recently conversed with Treaty 6 chiefs and that there are numerous topics for them to delve into. During a direct meeting with Indigenous leaders, King Charles expressed his concern regarding a separatist movement in Alberta, as reported by Grand Chief Joey Pete of the Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations.

While in the UK, Carney is also slated to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. A senior government official disclosed that they plan to discuss the Middle East situation and the conflict in Ukraine. London marks the final official visit on Carney’s itinerary, although he intends to stay in Europe for personal reasons.

Throughout his time in Europe, the Prime Minister’s Office affirmed that Carney will maintain close communication with his team and officials on various crucial matters. Carney emphasized on Thursday that despite taking some time off, he will remain easily accessible and engaged as required.

He underscored the strength of his government’s robust cabinet and his leadership style of empowering ministers with authority.
