A jeweller from the Toronto area accused of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars for Ryan Wedding’s alleged drug-smuggling operation has agreed to extradition to the United States for trial. Despite this, Rolan Sokolovski’s legal representative maintains that his client is innocent until proven guilty and intends to contest the charges.
Sokolovski, a Lithuanian-born individual aged 38, was apprehended in Toronto last November as part of a joint operation by the FBI and RCMP targeting Wedding’s criminal network. He is accused of acting as a financial facilitator for Wedding by moving illicit funds and obtaining luxury items for him, such as a rare $13-million US Mercedes CLK-GTR Roadster. Sokolovski, also known by the aliases “Sushi” and “Applepie,” faces charges related to drug trafficking and money laundering in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
Court documents reveal that Sokolovski allegedly utilized cryptocurrency platforms and his business, Diamond Tsar, located in the Toronto region, to launder money for Wedding’s criminal enterprise. Additionally, he is accused of creating a jewel-encrusted necklace for Atna Ohna, an alleged hitman associated with Wedding’s network, as a reward for his involvement in the murder of an FBI informant.
Sokolovski’s lawyer emphasized that his client is innocent until proven guilty and plans to challenge the accusations in Californian courts. The final decision on Sokolovski’s extradition to the U.S. rests with the federal justice minister.
In a related development, the U.S. Department of Justice has indicted numerous individuals linked to Wedding’s drug ring, which purportedly trafficked large quantities of cocaine and fentanyl across North America and carried out multiple homicides. Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder for Team Canada, was apprehended in Mexico earlier this year and transferred to California for legal proceedings. Notably, Sokolovski is the first among the arrested individuals to consent to extradition, with another individual facing similar charges scheduled for an upcoming hearing.
