A horse that got stuck in a frozen creek near the resort village of Cochin, Sask., has been dubbed Frosty after a successful rescue operation led by Cochin’s mayor, Mark Pattinson, and his friend Ed Scott. The horse was found struggling in freezing water and ice, initially eluding rescue attempts using just a rope and manpower. However, with the help of a Jeep equipped with a winch and the assistance of local community members and RCMP officers, the horse was finally pulled out of the icy water.
The rescue effort, which involved securing the horse with a strong rope connected to the Jeep’s winch, took less than 30 minutes. Despite being exhausted and covered in ice, the horse managed to stand up with some assistance. The rescuers then wrapped the horse in a blanket and took him to a warm shelter at the village shop. It was revealed that the horse had no current owner as his previous owner had passed away, leaving him to roam freely.
The community rallied around the horse, providing hay, water, and medical care. Local farmers even transported the horse, now affectionately known as Frosty, to a veterinary clinic in North Battleford for further treatment. The outpouring of support from the community, including offers to cover veterinary expenses, has been heartwarming for all involved in the rescue mission.
