“Quebec Election Voter Info to Be in French Only, English Access via QR Code”

Share

In an unprecedented move for a general election, Élections Québec announced that voter information documents will be provided exclusively in French to align with Quebec’s language legislation amendments, according to a press release issued on Tuesday. While traditionally distributed materials by Élections Québec before election day will be in French only, a QR code will be included to direct individuals to the agency’s English website for those seeking information in English. Only Indigenous voters and individuals eligible for English instruction can request documents and services in English from the agency. The 2022 law mandates the protection of French as the sole language for public institution communication. Voters are expected to receive the provincial election guide and voting location details no later than the week of September 14, with reminder cards set for mailing during the week of September 28. The election is scheduled for October 5.
