Kevin Cheveldayoff, the general manager of the Winnipeg Jets, is currently entertaining trade offers for their star goaltender, Connor Hellebuyck. During a pre-NHL draft video call on Friday morning, Cheveldayoff refrained from disclosing whether Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, has requested a trade. The team is open to exploring ways to enhance their roster, as Cheveldayoff emphasized the importance of listening to potential offers.
Following a disappointing season where the Jets missed the playoffs with a record of 35-35-12, Hellebuyck expressed his dissatisfaction in April, stating, “What we did this year was unacceptable, and no one wants to be a part of that.” Despite this, Cheveldayoff maintained that the details of internal discussions with Hellebuyck remain confidential.
Hellebuyck, who holds a full no-movement clause and is under contract for five more years with an annual salary of US$8.5 million, has been a standout performer. He was honored with the 2025 Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP and secured his third Vezina Trophy as the top goaltender. Last season, Hellebuyck posted a 23-23-11 record in 57 games with a 2.86 goals against average and an .895 save percentage. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in Team USA’s Olympic gold medal triumph over Canada.
Reports have surfaced indicating interest from multiple teams in acquiring the 33-year-old goaltender, who was chosen by the Jets in the 2012 draft. Cheveldayoff acknowledged the mutual commitment made by both parties with the seven-year contract extension and highlighted the risks involved. As the Jets head into the NHL draft holding the eighth overall pick, Cheveldayoff reiterated his stance of actively listening to potential trade scenarios without making any hasty decisions.
