Canada’s primary food safety regulator has revoked the permits of a frozen dessert manufacturer based in Quebec. Abe’s Frozen Desserts Inc., situated in Terrebonne, Que., had two of its Safe Food for Canadians licenses suspended by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on May 8, as per an official government announcement. The suspension entails a halt in all food production activities linked to those specific licenses until further notice, subsequent to an examination carried out under the Safe Food for Canadians Act and Regulations.
An inspection revealed various issues, such as deficiencies in pasteurization controls, preventive control plans, hazard analysis, sanitation, and Listeria monocytogenes sampling, equipment maintenance, and record-keeping within the facility. Adherence to food safety protocols is crucial for safeguarding the public and averting product recalls, the statement emphasizes. Notably, no product recall has been linked to the suspension.
The suspension will be rescinded once the licensee implements the necessary corrective actions. Failure to address the issues within 90 days may lead to license cancellation. Additionally, the license could be revoked based on other criteria outlined in Section 39 of the regulations.
Abe’s Frozen Desserts Inc. specializes in producing kosher and dairy-free ice cream and ice pops, commonly available in local supermarkets. Presently, the company’s website only features a teaser message stating “something cool is coming soon,” with limited additional details accessible. The most recent social media updates from the company date back to September.
