The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade Myles Garrett, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, to the Los Angeles Rams in a significant transaction. The deal, as reported by three anonymous sources familiar with the matter, is still pending finalization.
In return for Garrett, the Browns will receive Jared Verse, a pass rusher and linebacker, a 2027 first-round draft pick, and additional picks that are currently being negotiated. Garrett, who holds a minority stake in the Cavaliers, has not been present at the Browns’ facility during offseason activities, expressing frustration with the team’s recent performance.
Despite signing a lucrative contract extension last March, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, Garrett’s discontent with the Browns’ direction persisted. The trade was facilitated after modifications to Garrett’s contract were agreed upon in March, deferring option payments over the next few seasons.
On the Rams’ side, the acquisition of Garrett adds to a series of aggressive moves made by General Manager Les Snead, known for leveraging draft picks for established talent. The Rams have been a formidable force in the NFL under coach Sean McVay, culminating in a Super Bowl win in 2022.
In another transaction, star receiver A.J. Brown is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles to join the New England Patriots in a trade deal that includes draft picks. Brown, a three-time Pro Bowler, reunites with his former coach and brings a wealth of experience to the Patriots’ receiving corps.
Both the Garrett-Rams and Brown-Patriots trades reflect the ongoing roster reshuffling and strategic maneuvers taking place ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
