A Calgary woman, Carol Lloyd, 66, was sentenced to four years and two months by a judge on Friday for stealing almost $2 million from her employer and fleeing to the UK twice to avoid imprisonment. The fraud case involved Lloyd creating 117 false invoices while working as a property manager for FirstService Residential in Calgary in 2015. She was ordered to pay a fine equal to the stolen amount or face additional prison time. Lloyd absconded to the UK in 2015 and 2021 to evade arrest, leading to a lengthy legal battle before finally pleading guilty in August 2025. Despite her age and health conditions, the judge emphasized that the delays in the case were caused by Lloyd’s actions and that she should not be rewarded for fleeing. Lloyd’s deceitful behavior and repeated lies to the courts were highlighted, with multiple instances of dishonesty and attempts to mislead authorities during the extradition process. Despite her efforts to avoid extradition, Lloyd was eventually returned to Canada in 2021 and faced the consequences of her actions.
