Atlético Madrid has secured a loan deal for Canadian forward Jonathan David from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, hailing from Ottawa, appeared in 46 matches for Juventus last season, netting eight goals, and has made an additional appearance at the start of the current campaign.
David will be vying for playing time with Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth in Madrid, the latter having missed early matches due to a muscle injury. Formerly, David showcased his talent at Lille in France, scoring 109 goals in 232 games and clinching Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup titles before moving to Juventus in 2025.
As Canada’s leading men’s goal scorer with 42 goals, David holds a special connection as he joins Atlético Ottawa, his hometown team in the Canadian Premier League. Atlético Madrid’s upcoming fixtures include a match against Athletic Club on Saturday and a clash with Liverpool in the Champions League on September 9.
