Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko secured a spot in the semifinals once again. The 19-year-old rising star from Toronto defeated American Madison Keys in a hard-fought quarterfinal match at the Adelaide International tennis tournament. Mboko, seeded eighth in the tournament, took the first set by breaking Keys early on. However, she struggled against Keys’ powerful serves in the second set, leading to a split in sets. Despite Keys firing eight aces, including six in the second set alone, Mboko managed to dominate the third set by winning 75% of her first-serve points and converting the only breakpoint she had.

In the upcoming semifinals, Mboko will be facing Australia’s Kimberly Birrell. Following her remarkable performance in the 2025 WTA Tour season, where she was crowned the WTA Newcomer of the Year and climbed from No. 333 to No. 18 in the rankings after winning the National Bank Open in Montreal, Mboko is gearing up for her debut at the Australian Open later this month.
