Singer Bonnie Tyler passed away at a hospital in Portugal as confirmed by an announcement on her social media profiles. Tyler, aged 75, was admitted for urgent intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal, where she resided, in early May. Subsequently, she was placed in an induced coma for several weeks. Her family shared that Tyler’s death occurred unexpectedly on Wednesday night.
Famously recognized for her gritty vocals, Tyler reached the pinnacle of her career with the 1983 hit ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which claimed the top spot on music charts in Canada, the U.K., and the Billboard Hot 100. This success led to a Grammy nomination for both the song and the album “Faster Than the Speed of Night” in 1984. Tyler’s musical journey began with an earlier No. 1 hit in Canada in 1978 with “It’s A Heartache,” a track that also achieved top rankings on the Billboard charts.
Following her May surgery, Tyler’s scheduled concerts were canceled, marking an end to her enduring career.
