In a thrilling Professional Women’s Hockey League match at Scotiabank Arena, the Toronto Sceptres triumphed over the Vancouver Goldeneyes with a 2-1 victory, sealed by Daryl Watts’ overtime goal at 2:16.
Toronto, ending a four-game losing streak, saw goals from Savannah Harmon and Watts. Raygan Kirk, the Toronto goalie, made 23 saves. Vancouver, on the other hand, had Sarah Nurse as their lone goal scorer. Emerance Maschmeyer, Vancouver’s goaltender, faced 42 shots.
Harmon’s power-play goal, assisted by Blayre Turnbull, broke the scoreless tie in the second period. Nurse, returning after an eight-week absence due to injury, swiftly equalized the game shortly after Harmon’s goal.
Nurse expressed her excitement about returning to play against her former team, Toronto, and her joy at scoring a crucial goal. She emphasized the importance of making an impact on the ice, especially after being named to the Canadian Olympic team.
Despite the Goldeneyes’ struggles this season, Nurse’s return provided a much-needed lift for the team, according to head coach Brian Idalski. The game showcased a strong performance from both teams, with Toronto dominating the first period and Vancouver making a comeback in the second.
The victory marked an important turnaround for Toronto, ending their four-game losing streak, while Vancouver faced another defeat extending their losing streak to three games. The Sceptres will face the Seattle Torrent next, while the Goldeneyes will host the Sceptres in their upcoming match.
