Ontario Premier Doug Ford has firmly rejected the notion of reintroducing U.S. alcohol to Ontario stores until the White House agrees to terms in the ongoing trade dispute. This stance comes in response to comments made by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick highlighting Canada’s reliance on the U.S. economy and criticizing provinces for restricting American liquor sales.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Carney has pushed back against reports of the U.S. imposing conditions on trade discussions with Canada, stating that Canada will not make further concessions to the United States before negotiations commence. Ford has reiterated his stance that the ban on American alcohol sales in Ontario will remain in place until tariffs are lifted or a new trade agreement is reached.
