After spending almost two years in Toronto awaiting a heart transplant, Maverick Bishop has finally returned home to Stratford, P.E.I. The nine-year-old, born with congenital heart disease, underwent multiple surgeries before being placed on the transplant list in September 2024. Following a successful transplant in January, Maverick faced challenges during recovery but has now been cleared to resume his normal life back on the Island.
Expressing joy at the warm welcome received, Maverick mentioned his excitement about reuniting with friends and returning to school. The surprise party held in his honor was a special moment for him. Maverick’s mother, Marie-Eve Roy, shared the family’s emotional journey, highlighting the long wait near the hospital in Toronto and Maverick’s eagerness to lead a regular life again.
Woodrow Bishop, Maverick’s father, praised his son’s dedication to rehabilitation and acknowledged the overwhelming support received from the community in P.E.I. and across Canada.
