“New Leads Emerge in Cole Hosack’s Mysterious Disappearance”

Share

New leads have surfaced in the investigation by CBC’s the fifth estate regarding the mysterious disappearance of Cole Hosack in northern British Columbia. Hosack went missing on New Year’s Eve in 2023 after leaving a bar in Dawson Creek, located 1,200 kilometers north of Vancouver.

This investigation is part of a CBC podcast series called The Mile Zero Murders, which delves into a series of disappearances and killings in Dawson Creek, a small community with a population of 13,000. Over the past five years, fifteen individuals have either gone missing or been killed, with nine cases occurring in 2023 alone, including that of Hosack, whom the RCMP believes is deceased.

In the latest episode of the podcast, an undisclosed source recounts overhearing a conversation in which a man confessed to being involved in Hosack’s disappearance on the night he went missing. The source, fearing for their safety, revealed that the confessor was Matt Lawton, a 29-year-old resident of Dawson Creek with alleged ties to the local drug trade.

Lawton, when questioned by the fifth estate, denied any connection to Hosack’s disappearance, claiming unfamiliarity with the name. However, cellphone records show that Lawton was the last person Hosack contacted before his disappearance, although Lawton did not answer the call.

Further details suggest that Hosack, a grieving father passing through Dawson Creek on his way to a new job, was last seen on a security camera rushing down a dark alley followed by a truck. His mother believes his disappearance is unrelated to drugs, while multiple sources implicate three local men, including Lawton, as suspects in the case.

The RCMP, while declining to comment on the new information, affirm that the investigation remains active. Hosack’s fiancée urges Lawton to come forward with any pertinent details, emphasizing the need for closure for Hosack’s family, particularly his young son.

The evolving revelations shed light on a complex and tragic case that continues to haunt the community of Dawson Creek.
