Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traversed Canadian airspace on Thursday, despite being subject to an international arrest warrant. Flight data from online trackers indicates that Netanyahu’s aircraft passed over Greece, Italy, France, and Canada en route to his address at the UN in New York. Myah Tomasi, the spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, emphasized that allowing the passage through Canadian airspace should not be construed as an endorsement of any government’s policies or actions. Tomasi clarified that the approval for overflight was specifically related to the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting its significance as a crucial platform for diplomatic interactions.
Back in November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Subsequently, in October 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney declared that Netanyahu would face arrest upon entering Canada.
