NDP’s Kyle Campbell Wins Calgary-Shaw Byelection

Share

Alberta NDP nominee Kyle Campbell emerges victorious in the Calgary-Shaw byelection, as per unofficial data released by Elections Alberta. After all polling stations reported their results, Campbell secured 7,461 out of 16,002 votes cast, accounting for approximately 47% of the total votes, leading UCP contender Mike Derry by 582 votes.

This win marks the NDP’s return to power in Calgary-Shaw since 2015, with the UCP having claimed victory in both 2019 and 2023. The constituency seat had been unoccupied following the resignation of its former representative, Rebecca Schulz, a UCP MLA and ex-cabinet minister earlier this year, necessitating the byelection.

The final and official outcomes of the election are set to be ratified on September 24.
