Swiss skiing sensation Marco Odermatt continued his dominance in the World Cup by securing a fifth consecutive victory at the Adelboden giant slalom event. Despite challenging weather conditions with snowfall and reduced visibility, Odermatt maintained his lead from the first run to clinch the win, edging out Lucas Pinheiro Braathen of Brazil by 0.49 seconds. French skier Leo Anguenot finished in third place, trailing by 0.68 seconds.

Pinheiro Braathen graciously acknowledged Odermatt’s prowess on the slopes, describing him as the “king of the hill.” Odermatt’s win marked his fifth consecutive triumph at Adelboden since 2022, surpassing the legendary Ingemar Stenmark’s four-year winning streak from 1979 to 1982.

Expressing his deep connection to the Adelboden event, Odermatt reflected on his childhood memories at the venue, labeling it his “first love” in skiing. The enthusiastic crowd of approximately 25,000 fans added to the electric atmosphere, spurring Odermatt on to victory.

The day’s events began with a moment of silence to honor the victims of a tragic fire in a bar near Crans-Montana. Odermatt’s stellar performance this season has solidified his position as a top contender, with a significant lead in race points over his closest rival, Pinheiro Braathen.

Notably, this win marked Odermatt’s 51st career victory, placing him fourth on the all-time list and 29th in giant slalom wins. Pinheiro Braathen, who suffered a knee injury at Adelboden in 2021, overcame personal challenges to secure a podium finish, expressing his pride in conquering the storied hill.

The Adelboden giant slalom, a longstanding fixture on the World Cup circuit since 1967, boasts a challenging course with rolling terrain and a thrilling final slope that tests the skills of top skiers. While Odermatt will sit out the upcoming slalom event, Pinheiro Braathen is poised to defend his title in the competition.
