Madonna, the iconic queen of pop, has once again dominated the nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, surpassing even Taylor Swift. With 11 nominations for the upcoming ceremony, Madonna’s acclaimed album “Confessions II” and its associated film have secured her top spots, including nods for artist and video of the year.
Outshining Taylor Swift, who holds the record for most solo artist wins in VMA history, Madonna’s achievements mark her third time as the most nominated artist at the VMAs. Swift, with nine nominations for her album “The Life of a Showgirl” and the music video “The Fate of Ophelia,” trailed behind Madonna. Following closely were Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, each with seven nominations.
Madonna’s legacy at the VMAs dates back to 1990 and 1998 when she led nominations during her “Vogue” and “Ray of Light” eras. However, her unforgettable moment came in 1984 when she made history with a groundbreaking performance of “Like a Virgin,” challenging cable television norms.
Among Madonna’s nominations this year are video of the year, artist of the year, and song and collaboration of the year for “Bring Your Love,” featuring fellow nominee Carpenter. Competing for the coveted video of the year award are Madonna’s “Confessions,” Swift’s “Ophelia,” Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Carpenter’s “Tears,” Bruno Mars’s “I Just Might,” and Gener8ion and Yung Lean’s “Storm.”
For the 2027 VMAs, the public can vote in 13 categories, and the winners will be revealed during the live broadcast on September 27 on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+.
So, mark your calendars for the ultimate showdown where Madonna aims to reclaim her throne as the reigning queen of pop at the VMAs.
