Ireland has announced its decision to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest for the second consecutive year due to Israel’s involvement, according to the country’s national broadcaster. RTE confirmed that it will not be sending a representative to the 2027 event in Bulgaria and will not air the competition, citing concerns over the ongoing violence in Gaza.
This move by Ireland follows similar actions taken by five other countries, including the Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain, who abstained from participating in Eurovision this year as a form of protest against Israel’s participation in the renowned music competition.
In a similar stance, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS recently declared its intention to also boycott the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, attributing its decision to the contest no longer being viewed as impartial, especially with a participating nation embroiled in a significant military conflict.
The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held in May in the Bulgarian coastal city of Burgas.
