Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects 6,082 cars in Canada, as stated by Hyundai. According to a Hyundai spokesperson, Nitish Bissonauth, there have been no reported fires, incidents, injuries, or deaths associated with this issue in Canada.
In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 54,337 vehicles have been recalled for the same issue. Hyundai has identified a problem with the hybrid power control unit in some vehicles that could result in overheating. The NHTSA indicates that this could lead to a “no start” condition or reduced power mode in most instances, posing a fire risk due to potential overheating.
Hyundai has assured that it will reach out to all affected drivers and conduct a complimentary software update to address the overheating concern.
