Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming 2026 Montana’s Brier in St. John’s, with less than six weeks remaining. A final batch of tickets will be released on Tuesday at 12 p.m. NT for each of the tournament’s draws, ranging from 350 to 450 tickets per draw, according to Eugene Trickett, the tournament committee’s vice-chair.
Anticipation is high for these tickets due to the significant demand witnessed so far, largely fueled by the opportunity to witness hometown hero Brad Gushue’s final games before retirement. Trickett mentioned on CBC Radio’s The St. John’s Morning Show that this Brier is unique, as it will feature a retiring player competing on his home turf.
In the past, Gushue’s popularity has been evident, particularly during the 2017 national tournament in St. John’s where he achieved a memorable victory in front of his local supporters. Trickett foresees a similarly electric atmosphere this year, especially as Gushue progresses in the competition.
Tickets for the event can be purchased through Curling Canada’s website. Additionally, Trickett noted that there might be limited tickets available in the days leading up to the initial draws, as unused tickets from sponsors or curlers are released.
Despite the scarcity of tickets, individuals still have the opportunity to participate by volunteering for the event. The tournament committee has successfully recruited nearly all of the 400 volunteers required, with the remaining positions to be filled at the Patch, an entertainment hub at the St. John’s Convention Centre offering bars, food vendors, and live performances.
Entertainment at the Patch, including acts like the Irish Descendants and Billy and the Bruisers, is expected to draw large crowds, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Interested volunteers can register on the Curling Canada website to be part of this vibrant event atmosphere.
