“Deanna Stellato-Dudek Shines in Olympic Figure Skating Comeback”

42-year-old Deanna Stellato-Dudek recently made her Olympic debut in figure skating, a decade after her return to the sport. Despite a stumble in the short program due to a mishap with partner Maxime Deschamps, the Canadian duo secured a spot in the final free programs. Currently ranked 14th, they earned 66.04 points in the short program, performing to Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana.”

Leading the pairs competition are Germany’s Minvera Fabienne and Nikita Volodin, followed by Georgia’s Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava. Meanwhile, Canada’s Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, after a stellar performance, are positioned third going into the free program finals.

Stellato-Dudek, the oldest figure skater at the Olympics in nearly a century, faced uncertainties after a head injury in practice, forcing the pair to withdraw from the team event. However, she recovered remarkably and managed to compete in the individual event. Despite nerves and challenges, she expressed gratitude for representing older athletes.

Pereira and Michaud, placed on the podium, achieved a personal best score in the short program with an emotional routine to “Say You Love Me.” The duo’s families were moved by their flawless performance, securing them a third-place finish.

In another event, the top-ranked German pair, Fabienne Hase and Volodin, delivered a stellar performance, earning a personal best score and claiming the lead. Meanwhile, Japan’s Miura and Kihara, the reigning world champions, faced a minor setback but aim to improve their position at their second Olympic appearance. Chinese skaters Sui and Han, former gold medalists, showcased resilience in their performance despite challenges.
