Surrey authorities are currently investigating a shooting incident that took place at a residence in the South Newton neighborhood. The shooting is suspected to be linked to extortion. The home, which belongs to Arvinder Khosa, the president of Cricket Canada, had previously been targeted in a shooting incident on May 20.
Upon receiving reports of a shooting near 57 Avenue and 148 Street around 4 a.m. PT on Thursday, front-line officers promptly responded to the scene. Fortunately, although the home was occupied during the incident, no injuries were reported.
According to a news release from the Surrey Police Service (SPS), the investigation is in its preliminary stages, with indications pointing towards extortion due to prior threats and a shooting outside the residence in May 2026. The SPS extortion response team has taken charge of the investigation and is urging anyone with relevant information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, or knowledge about the suspects, to come forward and assist the authorities.
Earlier this year, an investigative report by fifth estate unveiled allegations of corruption, organized crime influence, and match-fixing attempts involving key individuals at Cricket Canada. The accused parties have vehemently denied these allegations. The report also highlighted connections between Khosa, who also holds the position of president at Cricket B.C., and local players claiming affiliation with the Bishnoi gang. These players allegedly threatened a national men’s player in 2025, a claim Khosa has previously refuted.
