The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has commenced, marking the beginning of almost a fortnight of excitement on the French Riviera as filmmakers and celebrities grace the red carpet for the opening ceremony and the premier of the movie “The Electric Kiss.”
The festival features 12 days packed with world premieres, leading up to the grand finale on May 23 with the prestigious Palme d’Or award ceremony, one of the most esteemed accolades in the film industry. Leading this year’s Cannes jury is South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, accompanied by a panel of distinguished members including Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd, Diego Céspedes, Laura Wandel, Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Isaach de Bankolé, and Ruth Negga.
A lineup of renowned personalities such as Kristen Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Adam Driver, Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Rami Malek, and others are expected to grace the event over the coming days. Notable filmmakers unveiling their latest works include Pedro Almodóvar with “Bitter Christmas,” James Gray with “Paper Tiger,” Na Hong-jin with “Hope,” Pawel Pawlikowski with “Fatherland,” and Ryusuke Hamaguchi with “All of a Sudden.” Additionally, director Peter Jackson, recipient of this year’s honorary Palme d’Or, was warmly received during the opening ceremony.
