Canada’s national women’s wheelchair basketball team secured its second win at the world championships in Ottawa by defeating Australia 79-30 at Carleton University. Leading the charge was veteran player Kady Dandeneau from Pender Island, B.C., who tallied a game-high 33 points, six assists, and 12 rebounds. Arinn Young, hailing from St. Albert, Alta., contributed 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, showcasing the dynamic duo’s dominance and propelling Canada to a strong 2-0 start in the 12-country women’s division.
The Canadian women started the game with a strong performance, establishing a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, a lead that Australia could not overcome throughout the one-sided match. Canada sealed their victory with an impressive 25-4 run in the fourth quarter.
Canada exhibited an efficient shooting performance, hitting 51% from the field and 50% from three-point range. In their previous match, the women’s team defeated Spain 76-51 at TD Place to kick off their world championship campaign. Up next, they will face off against China at TD Place on Saturday at 3 p.m.
On the men’s side, the Canadian team also started their tournament on a high note by defeating Morocco 74-51. Their next match will be against Germany at Carleton University on Friday at 12 p.m. ET. This year’s competition for both men and women is being hosted in Ottawa.
