Canada’s Victoria Mboko and Mirra Andreeva of Russia had a successful start at the Miami Open, defeating Australia’s Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands with a score of 7-6 (7), 6-3 in the women’s doubles Round of 32 on Sunday. The duo, hailing from Burlington, Ont., will now face each other in the singles Round of 16 on Monday at 12:10 p.m. ET, followed by a reunion on the doubles court against Australia’s Storm Hunter and Jessica Pegula in the Round of 16.
On the same day, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Que., experienced a loss to Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-2, 6-2 in the women’s singles Round of 32. Additionally, Fernandez, paired with Venus Williams of the U.S., faced a tough defeat against New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe and American Asia Muhammad in a women’s doubles Round of 32 match.
Looking ahead, Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime is set to compete against France’s Terence Atmane in the men’s singles Round of 32 on Monday at 12:10 p.m. In the women’s doubles event, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her new partner Luisa Stefani from Brazil are scheduled to play against Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova and Fanny Stollár of Hungary in the Round of 16 at 3 p.m.
