Canada’s winning streak continued as they secured a 2-0 record in the preliminary round following their previous 9-0 victory over Switzerland. The team is set to face undefeated Sweden in a Group A match at the Sport and Wellness Centre in Membertou, Nova Scotia on Tuesday afternoon.
Canada and Sweden currently lead Group A with flawless 2-0 records, with Switzerland and Hungary both struggling at 0-2. Megan Mossey contributed significantly with two goals and two assists in Monday’s game, where Canada outshot Hungary 74-11 and established a commanding 4-0 lead after the first period, extending it to 11-0 by the end of the second period.
Additional goal scorers for Canada included Caileigh, Alida Korte, Sofia Ismael, Rachel Piggott, Madison Levesque, and Kendall Doiron. Anais Leprohon, Aurora Matt, and Ismael stood out with three assists each, contributing to the balanced performance of the Canadian team, with seventeen players registering at least one point.
In a post-match statement, Canadian coach Vicky Sunohara expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance but highlighted the need to address defensive lapses, emphasizing the importance of sharper play in the upcoming match against Sweden.
