“Air Canada Workers Arrested in Drug Smuggling Scheme”

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced the apprehension of two Air Canada workers on Wednesday for allegedly aiding in the transportation of cocaine and cannabis through Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport. The police are currently executing search warrants at two residences and a vehicle in the greater Montreal area and also investigating the Air Canada employees’ workplace in Dorval, Quebec, in collaboration with the airline. The two suspects, who are involved in ground operations at Air Canada, are accused of participating in a scheme to transfer luggage through secure airport zones to facilitate the smuggling of cocaine and cannabis, as stated by the RCMP. The investigation was initiated in May following the interception of 62.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in backpacks from a flight originating in Punta Cana, with an additional 56 kilograms of cannabis seized during the inquiry. The arrested individuals will undergo questioning and be released pending further legal processes, according to the RCMP. Air Canada has confirmed that the two employees in question have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
