American softball athlete Cam Schiller has been suspended for a period of three years due to doping with a steroid, announced the International Testing Agency on Wednesday. The ITA revealed that Schiller tested positive for banned substances during his participation for the United States at the 2025 Men’s Softball World Cup, leading to the forfeiture of his bronze medal from the tournament. Schiller’s initial four-year ban was reduced to three years as he did not contest the doping violation and accepted the consequences, according to the agency.
Originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2012, Schiller transitioned from playing in the minor leagues for the Spokane Indians to pursuing a career in softball. The ITA reported that Schiller tested positive for norandrosterone, a metabolite of the anabolic steroid nandrolone, during last year’s World Cup held in Canada, where he achieved a batting average of .450 and earned a spot on the all-world team. Additionally, Schiller contributed to the U.S. team’s bronze medal victory at the preceding men’s World Cup in 2022, which took place in New Zealand.
