The Toronto Tempo made an official announcement on Wednesday revealing that Marina Mabrey, a standout guard, will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season due to a right adductor injury. Despite this setback, the team disclosed that Mabrey is anticipated to fully recover without the need for surgical intervention.
This development was somewhat anticipated as Mabrey has been out of action since her impressive 22-point performance against the Indiana Fever on August 18. With the Tempo no longer in the running for the playoffs and only four games left in the season, the timing of Mabrey’s absence is significant.
Throughout the season, Mabrey showcased her talent by averaging a career-best 20.8 points, along with 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 0.9 steals across 32 games. Her exceptional performance earned her a spot as a league all-star for the first time.
Notably, Mabrey achieved a personal milestone by scoring a remarkable 53 points in a game against Los Angeles on June 25, equalling the WNBA’s single-game scoring record. The Tempo drafted Mabrey as the sixth overall pick during the 2026 WNBA expansion draft, and she secured a lucrative two-year contract worth $2.4 million US prior to the season.
Toronto’s inaugural WNBA regular season will be coming to a close soon, with the team set to play their final home games against the Indiana Fever on Friday and the New York Liberty on Sunday.
