The B.C. Conservative Party faced further setbacks as MLAs Donegal Wilson and Scott McInnis resigned from the caucus, becoming the eighth and ninth members to do so recently. Both cited concerns regarding party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s leadership as their reason for leaving.
Wilson, the MLA for Boundary-Similkameen, expressed surprise at the rapid deterioration within the party and highlighted breakdowns in communication and worries about Findlay’s leadership decisions. McInnis, representing Columbia River-Revelstoke, stated that he no longer supports Findlay’s leadership direction, judgment, and decisions.
These resignations follow a series of departures from the Conservatives, including MLA Á’a:líya Warbus from Chilliwack-Cultus Lake. The departing members criticized the party’s shift towards exclusivity over building a broad coalition to serve British Columbians.
In response, the B.C. Conservative caucus reaffirmed its commitment to holding the NDP government accountable and working towards prosperity for the province. Findlay, who plans to run in a byelection triggered by MLA Reann Gasper’s resignation, dismissed the criticisms as a coordinated political attack.
Findlay emphasized her extensive public service experience and denied allegations of attempting to induce MLAs to vacate their seats. Former Conservatives Peter Milobar and Ian Paton announced their intention to establish a new party.
