Joel Chico, an actor who estimates spending approximately $2,000 on up to 30 tickets for premium screenings annually, expressed how the expenses add up, especially when purchasing tickets for friends. Despite the escalating prices, many TIFF enthusiasts, like Chico, still cherish the experience of being present with the cast during a film’s debut but wish the costs were more affordable.
TIFF has implemented ticket price increases this year, with premieres of highly anticipated films such as Palme d’Or winner “Fjord,” justice system thriller “Prima Facie,” and the Ryan Gosling-produced “Love of Your Life” reportedly fetching up to $106. The organization did not provide a response to inquiries regarding ticket pricing.
Furthermore, the festival did not disclose the maximum prices for seats in each category in the lead-up to the event. Regular screenings, following premieres and typically without cast members in attendance, were listed starting at $30 for non-members, while premium screenings began at $46. However, upon browsing tickets, many premium seats for screenings were found to be priced as high as $106.
