The Minnesota Frost announced the renewal of captain Kendall Coyne Schofield’s contract for two more years on Monday, putting to rest any speculation about the 34-year-old taking a break following her recent Olympic gold medal win with the United States. This signing ensures that the Frost will maintain their experienced leadership core as they head into their fourth season, a group that has been instrumental in securing the PWHL’s first two Walter Cup titles in 2024 and ’25. Alongside Coyne Schofield, alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek complete this formidable leadership trio.
Expressing her excitement for the upcoming seasons, Coyne Schofield stated, “We’re thrilled to be back for the next two seasons and can’t wait to return for Season 4. I’m ready to put in the work to bring the Walter Cup back to Minnesota.” Hailing from the Chicago area, Coyne Schofield boasts an impressive resume as a four-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the PWHL back in the summer of 2023 through negotiations.
During the last season, Coyne Schofield tallied 12 goals and 23 points in 23 games, despite missing seven games due to an upper-body injury sustained during the Milan-Cortina Games. Her career statistics in the PWHL stand at 63 points (30 goals, 33 assists) in 77 games, ranking her third on the league’s all-time list. Notably, Coyne Schofield was among the initial three foundational player signings for the Frost. Her playing status for the upcoming season was uncertain until the recent contract renewal, as she had remained unsigned and was left unprotected during the PWHL’s expansion process in June.
Currently, the Frost have 17 players under contract, including eight members from their victorious cup championship teams. Despite finishing third in the standings last season, the team was eliminated in a decisive Game 5 of the semifinal series by eventual champions Montreal.
