Detroit Lions player Terrion Arnold has been taken into custody in connection with a kidnapping and robbery incident in Florida and is now facing serious charges, authorities revealed on Wednesday.
Arnold, aged 23, is being accused of playing a key role in a scheme where three young men were held at gunpoint, physically assaulted, and robbed in Tampa back in February, as stated by the city’s police department. The victims had some of their possessions taken during the ordeal.
Charges against Arnold include four weapon-related counts and four counts related to kidnapping, causing harm, or instilling fear, according to the arrest records from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Six other individuals suspected of involvement in the targeted armed robbery have already been arrested by Tampa police. Two of them have admitted guilt, while the remaining four are currently in custody without bail, as reported by the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.
Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, representing Arnold, has stated that he denies any involvement in the incident. White emphasized that there is no solid evidence connecting Arnold to the accusations and suggested that the government’s case relies on the testimonies of convicted felons seeking to reduce their own sentences.
In early February, Arnold and his associates reported a theft of property worth over $250,000 from an Airbnb rental in Largo, according to police. Although Arnold initially suspected two young men of being responsible, further investigation revealed otherwise.
According to the State Attorney’s Office, shortly after reporting the theft, Arnold orchestrated the kidnapping and robbery. The victims were brought to an apartment where they were held at gunpoint and assaulted by Arnold’s friends, while Arnold monitored the situation remotely. Arnold later arrived at the scene, where his friends proceeded to steal from the victims.
The victims reported the incident to law enforcement, prompting State Attorney Suzy Lopez to condemn the actions, stating that disagreements over property do not justify resorting to violence or criminal acts.
Terrion Arnold, a starting cornerback for the Detroit Lions and a first-round pick in the 2024 draft from the University of Alabama, hails from Florida. The Detroit Lions have acknowledged the situation but declined to provide further comments at this time.
Arnold is now facing multiple felony charges, each carrying a possible life sentence, according to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. He turned himself in on Wednesday and is expected to appear in court in Hillsborough County on Thursday afternoon.
