Boxer Floyd Mayweather is currently facing two felony charges in Las Vegas for allegedly issuing a fraudulent check to purchase a watch from a high-end resale store. Mayweather was expected to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court for an initial hearing on Monday, represented by his attorney in his absence. The case is set for a hearing in September.
Court documents reveal that Mayweather, aged 49, was charged in April with theft and writing a bad check without sufficient funds with the intent to deceive. Prosecutors in Clark County claim that in December 2024, Mayweather wrote a $200,000 check through Wells Fargo Bank to Gold and Beyond, a designer resale store in Las Vegas, despite having an insufficient balance in his account.
Despite requests for comment, Mayweather’s attorney and representatives have not responded. These felony charges add to Mayweather’s existing legal troubles, including a lawsuit in New York for allegedly failing to pay rent at a Manhattan apartment and financial disputes with various jewelers. Additionally, Mayweather filed a lawsuit in New York against his former business manager, accusing them of engaging in a fraudulent scheme over several years.
Earlier this year, Mayweather, a former five-division world champion, announced his return to competitive boxing after coming out of retirement. He was slated to participate in the “Battle of the Legends” boxing match in Athens, Greece, on June 27, as confirmed in April.
