Environment Canada has issued warnings for mainland Nova Scotia, P.E.I., and southern New Brunswick due to an approaching low-pressure system expected to bring high winds, heavy rains, and potential snow. The Maritimes could see 25 to 40 millimetres of rain from this afternoon through early Monday, with a chance of a snowy mix in some higher elevation areas. Wind gusts of up to 100 km/h are forecasted in western Cape Breton.
The Northumberland Ferries service between P.E.I. and Nova Scotia may be canceled on Monday morning due to strong winds, while Marine Atlantic has already canceled several crossings between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for Sunday and Monday. The Confederation Bridge has issued a wind advisory with traffic restrictions in place from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday.
In Halifax, the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge briefly closed on Sunday after high winds blew unassembled scaffolding pieces onto the road. No injuries were reported, and the bridge will reopen once debris is cleared and safety inspections are completed. Additionally, over 6,000 Nova Scotia Power customers in western Nova Scotia experienced power outages due to the severe weather conditions.
