The Toronto Blue Jays have moved right-handed pitcher Shane Bieber to the 60-day injured list, as confirmed on Monday. This decision requires Bieber to remain inactive for a 60-day period starting from his initial placement on the injured list. Initially placed on the 15-day IL on March 22 due to elbow inflammation, Bieber will not be available until at least May 21.
Bieber was acquired by Toronto from Cleveland during last year’s trade deadline. The recipient of the 2020 American League Cy Young award, Bieber posted a 4-2 record with a 3.57 earned-run average in seven appearances for Toronto following his return from Tommy John surgery.
During the postseason, Bieber recorded a 2-1 record with a 3.86 ERA in five appearances as Toronto advanced to Game 7 of the World Series. In the offseason, he decided to exercise his $16 million US player option instead of testing free agency.
By transferring Bieber to the 60-day IL, the Blue Jays have opened up a roster spot for Lenyn Sosa, an infielder acquired from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Jordan Rich and future considerations on Monday.
Sosa, aged 26, contributed a .212 batting average with three runs batted in across 12 games for the White Sox this season. In 2025, he achieved a .264 batting average with 137 hits, 22 home runs, and 75 RBIs in 140 games.
Jordan Rich, who was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 17th round of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, is yet to make his professional debut.
