Authorities are concerned that the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, host of NBC’s “Today” show, may have been forcibly taken from her home. The sheriff emphasized the urgency of locating her promptly as she requires medication to survive. Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her residence in the Tucson, Arizona area on Saturday evening and was reported missing by her family the following day. It is suspected that she did not leave on her own accord due to her limited mobility, and officials believe she did not wander off as she was mentally alert.

Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is not related to dementia and that she was in good mental condition. He stressed that this was not a case of someone simply wandering away. Despite ongoing investigations by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, few details have been disclosed to the public regarding the circumstances of her disappearance.

The search for Nancy Guthrie involved the use of drones, search dogs, and various search and rescue teams, including volunteers, Border Patrol, and the homicide unit. Sheriff Nanos mentioned that the involvement of the homicide team was uncommon in such cases, indicating the seriousness of the situation. The FBI offered assistance in the investigation, and foul play has not been ruled out.

While search efforts have transitioned from a search mission to treating the area as a potential crime scene, Savannah Guthrie expressed gratitude for the support received from the community. In an issued statement, she thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers and emphasized the family’s primary focus on ensuring Nancy’s safe return. The “Today” show addressed the situation on air, revealing that Savannah Guthrie is currently in Arizona, where she has strong ties having grown up in Tucson and previously worked as a journalist in the area.

Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has deeply impacted her family and the local community, prompting an intensive search effort to locate her and ensure her safe return.
