In response, Afroman released music videos targeting the deputies’ actions, alleging misconduct and even accusing them of theft during the raid. He testified that the raid had a negative impact on his family, particularly his young children.
Afroman, clad in a patriotic suit during the court proceedings, defended his work on the basis of the First Amendment, claiming that he felt compelled to share his experience with his audience. The lyrics of his songs directly addressed the deputies and criticized their conduct during the raid. Despite the deputies’ claims of being ridiculed and harmed by the music videos, Afroman’s lawyer argued that artistic exaggeration in social commentary is not uncommon.
