Canadian Para skiers Kurt Oatway and Mollie Jepsen secured gold medals during the recent World Cup event held in Saalbach, Austria. Oatway claimed victory in the men’s sitting super-G race, clocking a winning time of 1 minute and 6.25 seconds. This success came a day after he clinched a bronze in his first race of the season. The closely contested race saw Netherlands’ Niels de Langen taking silver and Italy’s Renè De Silvestro securing the bronze.
Reflecting on his win, Oatway expressed satisfaction with his performance and the challenging course set for the competition. He mentioned that despite dealing with injuries for about a year, the recent victories are boosting his confidence for the rest of the season.
On the other hand, Jepsen, hailing from West Vancouver, B.C., emerged victorious in the women’s standing super-G race with a time of 1:08.35. This marked her eighth podium finish out of 11 races this season. Jepsen expressed happiness with her performance and mentioned the significance of regaining the top spot after facing injuries and doubts about her future in the sport.
In the men’s standing super-G race, Canadian Alexis Guimond secured a bronze medal after winning the previous day’s event. Guimond acknowledged the mistakes he made during the race but highlighted his overall satisfaction with his performance and the level of competition in the series.
