Alannah Keyser, a 21-year-old contestant, has been ousted from the current season of Love Island USA after a video resurfaced online showing her using a racial slur. Her departure occurred shortly after she made a dramatic entrance during the Casa Amor episodes on the reality dating series. The controversial video, a Snapchat clip, emerged on June 21, depicting Keyser singing along to a song that included the offensive term.
In a typical fashion for the show, narrator Iain Stirling announced Keyser’s sudden exit during Thursday’s episode, simply stating, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.” Fans of the show noticed a decrease in Keyser’s screen time following her initial appearance where she seemed to connect with fellow contestant Zach Georgiou.
Keyser’s situation is not an isolated incident for this season or the franchise as a whole. Prior to the Season 8 premiere, Vasana Montgomery was removed from the cast after old footage of her using a racial slur resurfaced. Similarly, in a previous season, Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega were also dismissed from the show due to similar controversies surrounding their use of racial slurs.
Keyser, Escobar, and Ortega all issued apologies for their actions, expressing regret and acknowledging the impact of their words. Despite attempts to reach Keyser for comment, there was no response prior to publication.
The Love Island USA series has faced criticism and backlash online, prompting the production to address cyberbullying directed towards contestants and their families. The incidents involving racial slurs have sparked conversations about accountability and the consequences of offensive language in the reality TV realm.
