Canada’s Victoria Mboko narrowly missed clinching her first title in the 2026 season. The 19-year-old from Toronto was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by third-seeded Russian player Mirra Andreeva in the women’s tennis final of the Adelaide International. Mboko, seeded eighth, managed two aces and three double faults while securing only half of her first-serve points. She capitalized on her sole opportunity to break during the match.
In contrast, Andreeva delivered one ace and one double fault, impressively winning 73 percent of her first-serve points and breaking her opponent on five out of 10 chances. Mboko is scheduled to face Australia’s Emerson Jones in the opening round of the Australian Open on Monday local time, which translates to Sunday night in Canada. She enters the Grand Slam event as the No. 17 seed.
Having had a remarkable 2025 season on the WTA Tour, Mboko is gearing up for her Australian Open debut after being crowned WTA Newcomer of the Year. Her stellar performance included clinching the National Bank Open in Montreal and elevating her ranking from No. 333 at the beginning of the season to No. 18 by the end.
