Detective Charlie Hudson is making a comeback to the screen. John Reardon, the original lead of the police procedural series “Hudson & Rex,” is set to reprise his role for the upcoming ninth season, as announced by Citytv. Reardon, a native of Halifax, had stepped away from the show in Season 8, making way for Luke Roberts. Last year, Reardon disclosed on social media that his departure was not voluntary, attributing it to a tonsil cancer diagnosis during Season 7. Despite being cleared by doctors to resume filming, the production team opted for a different direction, sparking a global outpour of support from fans who campaigned for his return through various channels, including social media and newspaper advertisements.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Reardon stated his eagerness to embody the character of Charlie once again. He acknowledged the show’s dedicated fan base and expressed gratitude for their unwavering backing. The production company, Shaftesbury, also welcomed Reardon’s return, emphasizing the anticipation of an exciting new season in collaboration with the cast, crew, and network partners.

Citytv confirmed that filming for the upcoming season is scheduled to commence in June in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The storyline hints at a surprising return of Charlie Hudson to St. John’s from his South America expedition, with an impending mission to wrap up lingering issues from his Belize escapade. Additionally, it was confirmed that Luke Roberts will continue portraying Detective Mark Hudson in the show’s upcoming season.
