The Ottawa Charge secured their franchise-best fifth consecutive victory by beating the Vancouver Goldeneyes 4-2 on Friday night. Anna Meixner, Ronja Savolainen, Brianne Jenner, and Rebecca Leslie all found the net for the Charge, with Gwyneth Philips making 23 saves in goal. Vancouver’s goals came from Sophie Jaques and Michelle Karvinen, with Kristen Campbell stopping 23 shots.
Ottawa took the lead in the first period when Savolainen scored off a Peyton Hemp shot rebound at 10:12. Meixner extended the lead to 2-0 in the third period at 5:07. Vancouver responded at 11:13 through Jaques, but Jenner’s empty-net goal at 18:35 secured the win. Leslie added another empty-net goal with 24 seconds left in the game.
The Goldeneyes have only managed one road victory in five games this season. In their upcoming matches, the Charge will face the Boston Fleet in Halifax, while the Goldeneyes will play against the Victoire in Montreal on Sunday.
