Binh Tran has been striving for the past six months to recover her funds following a fraudulent phone call incident. In March, she received a call from an individual posing as a representative from TD Bank’s fraud prevention unit, instructing her to withdraw her money under the pretense of an ongoing investigation. Despite feeling uneasy, Tran withdrew $9,800 from her bank and subsequently deposited it into a bitcoin machine for verification, believing the call to be legitimate as the scammer’s number matched the one listed on the bank’s official website.

Despite her efforts, TD Bank informed Tran that she would not be reimbursed for the loss. Feeling neglected by the bank’s lack of investigation, Tran expressed her disappointment, stating that they showed little concern for customer losses.

In response to inquiries, TD Bank refrained from commenting on specific cases but acknowledged the distress associated with falling victim to scams. Emphasizing their commitment to client protection, the bank highlighted their robust security measures and customer education initiatives. They also cautioned against unsolicited calls and reiterated that they would never solicit assistance for investigations or request sensitive information over the phone.

Tran’s predicament stems from a form she signed while withdrawing the funds, absolving TD Bank of liability for reimbursement. Despite involving the police and filing a report, Tran remains uncertain about the progress of the investigation. Determined to challenge TD Bank’s decision, she plans to appeal to the federal banking ombudsman, underscoring her diligent verification of the bank’s phone number and her earnest desire to recover her hard-earned savings.

Facing financial uncertainty, Tran emphasized the significance of the lost amount, expressing her need for the funds as part of her retirement savings. She remains resolute in her pursuit of justice, seeking the return of her money to her account with a fervent plea for resolution.
