The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are here, celebrating the top television shows, talented actors, and outstanding performances from the past year. The ceremony kicks off live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, with Mariska Hargitay from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as the host.
HBO is making a strong entrance with two leading nominations. The medical drama “The Pitt,” led by Noah Wyle, has grabbed 25 nominations, including a shot at the outstanding drama series award. Wyle is also a front-runner for the outstanding lead actor in a drama series. Following closely behind is HBO’s comedy “Hacks,” with 24 nominations, setting a new record for the most Emmy nominations for a comedy series in a single year.
Apple TV is also making waves in the nominations, with the comedy-horror series “Widow’s Bay” securing 19 nods. Additionally, “Pluribus” and Netflix’s “Beef” have garnered 18 and 16 nominations, respectively.
All eyes are on Zendaya, aiming for a historic third win as outstanding lead actress in a drama series. If successful, she would become the youngest performer to win the award three times.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards held on September 5 and 6 saw several stars taking home trophies. Notably, Bad Bunny won his first Emmy for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime show, securing seven awards, including outstanding variety special (live). Sabrina Carpenter, known for “Espresso,” also won her first Emmy as an executive producer and performer on “The Muppet Show.”
This year’s Emmy Awards will introduce a new accolade after almost two decades: the Legacy Award, recognizing programs that have left a profound impact on audiences, society, culture, and the industry.
The major categories for the awards include Best drama series, Best comedy series, and Best limited or anthology series, among others. The nominees and winners in these categories will be updated as the ceremony unfolds on Monday night.
